Happy Release Day to Two New Titles

It's a duo release day for Compass Press! Congratulations to our newest author Anne Riley on the release of her contemporary fantasy novel, Shadows of the Hidden. You can find it at both Barnes & Noble in paperback and Nook versions, and on Amazon in paperback and Kindle versions. Coming soon to more retailers. Here is a bit about it:

Natalie Watson doesn't believe her parents are dead, even though they disappeared five years ago. Discovering the truth about their fate is one of the only things that gets her out of bed in the morning. But after moving from her home in Georgia to her aunt's boarding school in Maine, solving the mystery of her parents' whereabouts is just one of several challenges she must face. When she's not fending off attacks from the popular kids, she puzzles over the rumors about a strange boy in her math class--one with fiery red hair who rarely speaks.

Despite suspicions that he murdered his sister a year earlier, Natalie finds it impossible to stay away from Liam Abernathy--especially when he confesses to knowing something about her parents. Soon she's following him into the forest, where things happen she doesn't understand...things that shouldn't be possible.

Natalie soon realizes her connection to Liam is deeper than she ever imagined, and not everyone she counts as a friend can be trusted. When she finds herself at the center of a centuries-old quest for immortality, she must work with Liam to stay alive--even if it means facing a truth about herself and her family that will not only shake her perception of herself, but of the entire world around her.

And congratulations to this list of wonderful authors who contributed to our anthology, Winter Wonders, which released today as well. 100% of the proceeds of this novel will go toward a charity that promotes literacy in young people.

Black Friday Weekend Deals

In celebration of you, our readers, this weekend Compass Press is joining in on Black Friday by dropping the price on two of our hottest eBooks to only .99 cents. Grab them quick though because by Monday they'll be back to their regular price.

On both Amazon & B&N, Heather McCorkle's The Secret of Spruce Knoll. A bit about it:

Following the tragic death of her parents, Eren Donovan moves to Spruce Knoll to live with an aunt she’s never met. Little does Eren know the entire town of Spruce Knoll is filled with “channelers”—a magical group of people who immigrated to the small Colorado town when they were driven out of their own lands.

Channelers are tied to the fate of the world. As the world slowly dies, so do they—and they alone have the power to stop the destruction of Earth. Soon, Eren learns she not only lives among them, but she is one. When she meets local boy Aiden, his charm convinces her that being a channeler may not be all bad though.

As Eren and Aiden’s relationship develops, so too does a mystery in Spruce Knoll. The town holds many secrets—and many dangers. It soon becomes apparent that the untimely death of Eren’s parents was no accident and that her life might be in danger too. Only time will tell if Eren can embrace her unwanted power and protect the only family she has left.

Lacrimosa, by Christine Fonseca on Amazon. A bit about it:

It’s been three thousand years since the fall of Azzaziel and the rebirth of evil; three thousand years since the Sentinal Order, an elite group of warrior angels, returned to Celestium. Their job—rid Earth of the dark creatures, the UnHoly. And with luck, end Azza’s rule.

As if casting out demons isn’t hard enough, five-hundred-year-old Nesy has to masquerade as a teenage girl to do it. Nesy is the best of the Sentinals. She never makes mistakes, never hesitates, never gets emotionally involved. Until she meets Aydan.

He is evil incarnate; a fallen angel that feeds off the souls of others. Everything Nesy is supposed to hate. But she can’t, because he’s also the love of her former life as a human girl—a life that ended too soon, tying her to emotions she was never supposed to feel.

Now Nesy must choose between doing her duty—damning Aydan to the fiery depths of hell—or saving him, and condemning herself. And her choice may cost her, and Celestium, far more than anyone realizes.

Let Freedom Ring Celebration

In honor of the holiday, Compass Press is letting freedom ring by placing it's novellas free! We hope you'll celebrate freedom with us by downloading, spreading the word, and enjoying the following novellas:

Born of Fire by Heather McCorkle can be found FREE on Amazon (hopefully it will go free on Barnes and Noble soon, we'll keep you updated). Here is a bit about it:

The story of the night Aiden was born has never been told, until now. Fleeing the Hunter's, Kevan and Shannon O'Reilly find their way to Spruce Knoll Colorado, assuming they'll be safe in America. Their unborn son is special, even for a druid, or channeler as the American's like to call their kind. But why the Hunter's, people who are sworn to keep their kind safe, are after them is a mystery. All they know is that if they don't outrun them they'll be killed.

Trouble has followed them to Spruce Knoll and just when it seems it may be too late, they discover why.

Dies Irae by Christine Fonseca can be found FREE on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Here is a bit about it:

Some sacrifices should never be made—even for love.

Mikayel lives by one rule—obey the orders of the angelic Council at all costs. That is, until he and his friends, Azza and Demi, are sent to Earth. Assigned as Watchers while they await their decision of which angelic order to serve, the three assume the bodies of teenagers and experience life as human.

The sensations are overwhelming as the angels experience a host of human emotions—rage, terror, love—and come ever closer to breaking one of the unbreakable rules—never fall in love.

But being human isn’t the only problem facing the three angels. Unbeknownst to the Council, demonic activity is on the rise, threatening to break a tenuous peace that has existed for a millennia; a peace Azza seems bent on destroying.

Caught in a struggle for power with unseen demonic forces and Azza, and fighting against his rising emotional attachment to Demi, Mikayel must now decide how much he is willing to sacrifice for his new found love—a decision that could reignite an ancient war and will threaten the only thing that matters to the angels, the survival of humanity.

Mea Culpa by Christine Fonseca can be found FREE on Amazon (hopefully it will go free on Barnes and Noble soon, we'll keep you updated). Here is a bit about it:

Everything has a price, especially duty. And love.

Azza's attacks are always deadly...ALWAYS. But that was before Nesy. And before Mikayel and Zane. Now, death has a new enemy. But, what's the cost for saving a life?

MEA CULPA follows one angel's quest to save his best friend. This novella is a bridge between Christine's first full-length novel, Lacrimosa, and her second full-length novel, Libera Me (releasing soon).

Since publishers control over free promotions on sites such as Amazon and Barnes and Noble is a limited thing, we are unable to say how long this promotion will last. Grab them while you can!

Compass Press Welcomes Anne Riley

We are very pleased to announce the acquisition of our newest title, Shadows of the Hidden, and welcome author Anne Riley to the Compass Press family. Shadows of the Hidden is a young adult paranormal novel. Our acquisitions manager came across Anne’s book in its first incarnation recently. After having had an agent who shopped the story around, Anne decided to self-publish the novel under the original title, The Clearing (yes it’s true, acquisitions does scout through some self-published novels for great talent). It was clear from the first read that this was a title with great potential and one that Compass Press wanted to invite into our home.

As a self-published novel, The Clearing received an overwhelming majority of four and five star reviews, and for good reason. Compass Press plans to stay true to what made The Clearing such a hit with fans and our editor plans on only enhancing the story, not altering it beyond recognition. So if you are already a fan of Ms. Riley's, never fear, she and her novel are in good hands. If you are not yet a fan, we invite you to meet Anne and add Shadows of the Fallen onto your must-read list. Here is a bit about the novel:

Natalie Watson doesn't believe the reports about the way her parents died. In fact, she's not sure she believes in much of anything these days. But after moving from her home in Georgia to her aunt's boarding school in Maine, solving the mystery of her parents' deaths is just one of several things on her mind.

When she's not fending off attacks from the popular kids or taking refuge in the pages of a novel, she ponders the rumors circulating about a certain boy in her math class... a boy with fiery red hair who never speaks to anyone.

Despite suspicions that he may have murdered his sister a year earlier, Natalie finds it impossible to stay away from Liam Abernathy - especially when he confesses to knowing something about her parents. Soon she's following him into the forest, where things happen she doesn't understand... things that shouldn't be possible....

As Liam's story unfolds, Natalie realizes she's more connected to him than she ever thought - and not everyone she counts as a friend can be trusted.

Look for Shadows of the Hidden in paperback and eBook formats this winter.
